Aurora Expeditions · Fares
An Aurora fare covers far more than your cabin. Here is what is included on a typical Antarctic voyage, where some voyages differ, and what you will need to budget for separately.
Your Fare
Aurora Expeditions, which now also trades as AE Expeditions, keeps the extras on board to a minimum. On most Antarctic voyages from Ushuaia your fare covers a hotel night before you sail, all meals and drinks on board, every landing and Zodiac cruise, lectures, a polar jacket to take home and the loan of boots. From the 2026 to 2027 season, premium spirits, cocktails, beer, wine and liqueurs are included throughout the voyage, not just with dinner.
The main things to budget for are your flights to South America, travel insurance, the optional add on activities and anything personal such as laundry. The list below follows Aurora’s standard inclusions for voyages from Ushuaia, and each voyage page shows any differences.
Included
Some voyages work differently. The fly the Drake voyages, Antarctic Peninsula: Fly the Drake and Across the Antarctic Circle: Fly the Drake, include return charter flights between Punta Arenas and King George Island and two hotel nights in Punta Arenas, one before and one after. Several other voyages fly one way and sail the other, with the charter flight and a Punta Arenas hotel night included, among them Antarctic Explorer, Antarctic Explorer Express and Wild Antarctica. The Ross Sea Odyssey begins with a hotel night in Hobart and Epic Antarctica with a night in Dunedin. Some voyages from Ushuaia, such as Across the Antarctic Circle, include a tour to Lake Escondido, in the mountains of Tierra del Fuego, on Day 2. Across the Antarctic Circle: Fly the Drake includes beer and house wine with dinner rather than the full drinks package. Our gateway cities guide covers Ushuaia, Punta Arenas and Buenos Aires.

Not Included
On most voyages a suggested gratuity of US$20 per person per day for the crew and expedition team is added to your onboard account. It is your choice: you can remove or change the amount when you settle up at the end. For guests in a Junior Suite or the Captain Suite, the gratuity is included as one of the suite benefits. Across the Antarctic Circle: Fly the Drake is the exception, with a suggested US$15 per person per day for the crew, again adjustable and included for suites.
Life on Board
Meals are open seating, with hearty food from the onboard chefs, morning and afternoon teas, and tea, coffee and snacks around the clock. The bar opens from lunchtime on sea days and from 3pm on excursion days, and on most voyages the drinks are included, from beer and wine to premium spirits and cocktails. The voyage ends with the Captain’s Farewell reception and a four course dinner. Between landings there are lectures on wildlife, history and glaciology, the Citizen Science programme to join, and the gym, sauna and two Jacuzzis to use.
Every expeditioner receives a three in one waterproof polar jacket, which is yours to keep, and Muck Boots are lent to you for wet landings, so you have two of the most important pieces of kit covered. Wi-Fi is included, but the ships sail in some of the most remote waters on Earth and the connection can be slow or patchy, so treat it as a bonus. Our practical information page covers what else to pack.

Solo and Returning Guests
Aurora holds up to 10 dedicated solo cabins on every sailing, with no single supplement, and the Douglas Mawson has the widest choice of single staterooms. If the solo cabins have gone, or you want a particular grade, you can book any available stateroom for yourself with a 50% supplement, and that option can be combined with other offers.
Once you have completed an Aurora voyage you join the loyalty programme automatically, and your status never expires. Bronze Adventurers (one voyage) get a 5% discount on top of any running offer, early access to new seasons, US$100 onboard credit per person and a glass of champagne or top shelf spirit. Silver Explorers (two voyages) get the 5% with a minimum 15% discount at all times, US$250 onboard credit, a bottle of wine and a free stateroom upgrade when available. Gold Pioneers (three voyages) get the same with US$500 onboard credit.

Yes, Wi-Fi is included on all Aurora voyages. The ships travel to very remote regions, though, so the connection can be unreliable, especially far south. It is fine for messages and email most of the time, but do not count on streaming or video calls, and tell anyone at home not to worry if you go quiet.
Guests in the Junior Suites and the Captain Suite receive a pair of binoculars per suite, a stocked mini bar, a bottle of champagne per suite and the crew and expedition team gratuity included. The Junior Suite mini bar is stocked once, while the Captain Suite’s is replenished as needed.
