Taking its name from the first man to cross Antarctica and reach the South Pole in 1911, MS Roald Amundsen leads the class in environmentally friendly ships and ushers in an even more sustainable way of travelling. The ship is specially built by Kleven Maritime for voyages in polar waters. It offers very comfortable accommodation at sea with its modern and airy cabins and public areas, allowing adventurers from all over the world to visit the most spectacular destinations in the most sustainable way.
Originally planned for launch in February 2018, the launch of MS Roald Amundsen was delayed until July 2019. This cutting-edge, state of the art ship features new and environmentally friendly hybrid technology that will reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions by around 20 percent and lead the way to more sustainable cruising in the fragile ecosystems of the polar regions.
By utilising electrical propulsion, this innovative sustainable technology will not only reduce fuel consumption and CO2-emissions, but will also offer an immeasurably better experience for passengers as, at times, it will be able to switch off its engines and cruise silently through the Arctic and Antarctic waters.
