A journey that travels deep into the southern oceans, this incredible voyage passes through some of the most spectacular natural scenery on Earth, following Patagonia's breathtaking coastline and crossing the Drake Passage into the dramatic landscapes of Antarctica's sublime wilderness.
Itinerary
Day 1 :
Fly to Ushuaia and embark MS Fram, set sail through the scenic Beagle Channel towards Chile.
Days 2 - 6 :
Spend the next four days exploring the remote area of Tierra del Fuego, South America's southernmost point. On your itinerary are visits to Diego Ramírez Islands, a small group of islands located in the southernmost extreme of Chile and an important nesting site for a number of southern seabirds; legendary Cape Horn and Puerto Williams on Navarino Island.
Continue through the fabled waters of Patagonia and sail in one of the world's most remote and beautiful places, The Magellan Strait. Here you will find a Magellanic penguin breeding site on Magdalena Island and also call at Punta Arenas, a centre for trade, seafaring and culture.
Day 7 :
Cross the infamous waters of the Drake Passage, where the two great oceans of the Atlantic and the Pacific meet beneath a maelstrom of countless seabirds head for the northernmost tip of the vast white continent of Antarctica, the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands. On board lectures and ample opportunities for wildlife sightings.
Days 8 - 13 :
In Antarctica. During your time in this pristine wilderness you will encounter Penguin colonies, seals, numerous sea birds and magnificent icebergs. Your final itinerary is subject to local weather and ice conditions will determine your programme, amongst the landing sites you may visit are Deception Island, Cuverville Island, Neko Harbour, Paradise Harbour, Waterboat Point, the Lemaire Channel, Petermann Island, Port Lockroy, home to the British Antarctic Survey, Wilhelmina Bay, the Antarctic Sound otherwise known as Iceberg Alley and Brown Bluff.
Day 14 :
Cross the Drake Passage bound for Ushuaia, passing Cape Horn en route. Cape Horn marks the southernmost point of the South American continent, a region with a long and vital role in the exploration of these southern seas and which, during the 18th and 19th centuries, was one of the most feared sea passages on Earth.
Day 15 :
Arrive back in Ushuaia, disembark MS Fram and fly to Buenos Aires.
